Abstract
Objectives: Despite of increasing interest in borderline personality disorder, few studies have been done concerning the Rorschach test indices. The purpose of this study was to investigate the defense mechanism in borderline personality
disorder
(BPD) group by Lerner Defense Scale (LDS) that is devised to evaluate the specific defensive operations presumed to characterize the lower level of defensive functioning of BPD.

Methods: The Rorschach protocols of three groups (25 neurotic patients, 24 borderline disorder patients, 23 schizophrenia patients) were assessed using the Lerner Defense Scale and Holt's aggression content scale.

Results: BPD group score significantly much higher than neurotic group and schizophrenia group on the defenses of splitting , projective identification. Also, correlation between borderline's defense mechanism and aggression content was
significant high.

Conclusion: These results show that borderline personality disorder group use more primitive, lower defense mechanism than schizophrenia, neurotic patients group. And high correlation between borderline's defense mechanism and aggression
content
responses imply that BPD;s ineffectiveness defensive mechanism.
